Binance APP Markets Page Tutorial: Understanding Every Data Point

The markets page is where every trader spends the most time. Today we'll do a complete breakdown of the Binance APP's markets page to make sure you understand every number you see.

Accessing the Markets Page

Tap the "Markets" button on the bottom tab bar to enter the markets page. In testing, first load times are around 2 seconds on a 2G network and nearly instant on Wi-Fi.

The markets page is organized into three layers: a category tab bar at the top, the market list in the middle, and quick-action shortcuts at the bottom.

Top Category Tabs

A row of category tabs at the top of the markets page lets you quickly filter data for different markets.

Watchlist: Coins you've saved will appear in this list — essentially your "Followed" list. In testing, the watchlist supports up to 50 coins, which is more than enough for most users.

Hot: Trending trading pairs automatically recommended by the system, typically including major coins like BTC, ETH, and BNB, as well as the biggest movers of the day.

Spot: The complete list of all spot trading pairs, filterable by quote currency — such as the USDT market, BTC market, or BNB market.

Futures: Market data for USDT-margined and coin-margined futures contracts. Futures traders can quickly check key metrics like funding rates here.

New Listings: The most recently listed coins, making it easy to track the latest additions to Binance.

Market List — Field by Field

Each row in the market list displays a rich set of data. Let's go through each field:

Coin Name and Trading Pair

The left side shows the coin's ticker symbol and trading pair, e.g., "BTC/USDT." A small label below the coin name indicates whether it's spot or futures.

Latest Price

The large number in the center is the most recent trade price. This updates in real time — testing shows refresh intervals of approximately 1–2 seconds. The color changes with price direction: green for rising prices, red for falling prices (in the default color scheme).

24-Hour Price Change

The percentage figure on the right shows the 24-hour price change. This is a key indicator for quickly gauging a coin's short-term trend.

Note that this percentage is calculated on a rolling 24-hour basis, not based on the calendar day. It reflects the proportion of price change over the past 24 hours.

Hidden Data: Long-Press for More

Testing revealed that long-pressing a trading pair brings up a quick-preview popup with additional data:

  • 24-hour high/low: The price range for that day
  • 24-hour volume: Trade volume measured in the base currency
  • 24-hour turnover: Total value traded measured in the quote currency

This is a very practical feature — you can access key data without navigating to the detail page.

Sort Feature

Sorting buttons at the top of the market list allow you to sort by the following dimensions:

  • Default: Sorted by a combination of market cap and popularity
  • Price: Highest to lowest or lowest to highest
  • Price Change: Quickly find the biggest gainers or biggest losers
  • Volume: Find the most actively traded assets

In testing, sort switching responds very quickly — tapping a sort option causes the list to reorder immediately with no noticeable delay.

Mini Candlestick Charts

Each trading pair also displays a small candlestick chart thumbnail on the right side, showing recent price trends. Although this mini chart lacks granular detail, it gives you an intuitive sense of the trend direction.

Tapping a mini candlestick chart takes you to the full chart detail page, which we'll cover in the candlestick chart tutorial.

Search Feature

A search icon in the upper-right corner of the markets page supports quick searches for any coin.

In testing, search supports:

  • Entering the coin ticker (e.g., "ETH")
  • Entering the full coin name (e.g., "Ethereum")
  • Entering the trading pair (e.g., "ETHUSDT")

Search results display in real time with fuzzy matching — the experience is quite smooth.

Market Detail Page

Tapping any trading pair opens the market detail page. This page is packed with information, so let's break it down by section.

Price Section

The top shows the current price, 24-hour price change percentage, and 24-hour high/low. The price font is noticeably larger for at-a-glance readability.

Candlestick Chart Section

The center features a full candlestick chart with multiple timeframe options: 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, 1 day, 1 week, and more. Gesture support includes pinch-to-zoom and single-finger scrolling — the feel is among the best of any trading app.

Depth Chart

Below the candlestick chart, you can switch to the depth chart view. The depth chart visualizes how buy and sell orders are distributed in the order book. Green areas represent buy orders; red areas represent sell orders. You can visually compare the current buying and selling pressure.

Trade Feed

At the very bottom is a real-time feed of the most recent individual trades, showing fill price, quantity, and timestamp. The data scrolls continuously — for highly active pairs like BTC/USDT, the update speed in testing is extremely fast.

Data Refresh Mechanism

Based on testing, the Binance APP's market data refresh works as follows:

  • Foreground: Data is pushed in real time with a delay of approximately 500ms–1s
  • Background: Data updates pause; they resume immediately when you return to the foreground
  • Weak network: A loading indicator is displayed rather than showing stale data

This refresh design is well thought out — it ensures data freshness while avoiding presenting users with outdated information in poor network conditions.

Comparison with Other Platforms

Benchmarking the markets page against other major exchange apps, Binance's advantages are:

  1. Most complete data: Displays the most indicators without requiring page navigation
  2. Fast loading: Thanks to Binance's robust technical infrastructure
  3. High customizability: Sorting, filtering, and watchlist features are all well developed

A minor downside is that the information density is high, which may take new users some time to get used to.

Usage Recommendations

If you're a beginner, start by adding the coins you follow most closely to your watchlist and check only that view in daily use. As your market understanding deepens, gradually explore the other categories and sort features.

If you're an active trader, make good use of the sort feature to spot unusual market activity. Volume sorting and price-change sorting are the two most practical options.
