Introduction: Binance on Mac
There is no shortage of cryptocurrency enthusiasts among Mac users. The smooth macOS experience combined with the Binance desktop client can create a remarkably comfortable trading environment. I tested the Binance Mac client on both a MacBook Pro and a Mac mini and am sharing a complete hands-on report covering installation and everyday use.
1. Before You Download
1.1 Identify Your Chip
Macs currently use two chip architectures:
- Apple Silicon (M-series chips): M1 / M2 / M3 / M4, found in Macs released from late 2020 onward
- Intel chips: Macs released in 2020 and earlier
How to check: Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of the screen, then choose "About This Mac" and look at the chip information.
1.2 macOS Version Requirements
- Minimum: macOS 10.13 (High Sierra)
- Recommended: macOS 13 (Ventura) or later
2. Download and Installation
2.1 Download the Client
- Open Safari or Chrome
- Visit the Binance official website download page
- Select the "macOS" version
- Choose the build that matches your chip (if separate builds are offered)
- Download the
.dmginstaller file
The file size is typically between 80 and 120 MB.
2.2 Install the Application
- Double-click the downloaded
.dmgfile - In the window that appears, drag the Binance icon into the "Applications" folder
- Wait for the copy to finish
- Find the Binance app in Launchpad or the Applications folder
2.3 Handling macOS Security Restrictions
The first time you open Binance, macOS may block the app and display a "cannot verify developer" message.
Method 1 (Recommended):
- Open "System Settings" → "Privacy & Security"
- Scroll down to the Security section
- You will see a message saying "Binance was blocked"
- Click "Open Anyway"
- Enter your system password to confirm
Method 2:
- Locate the Binance application in Finder
- Hold the Control key and click the app icon
- Select "Open" from the context menu
- Click "Open" in the dialog that appears
2.4 First-Launch Configuration
- The app will update its data when it first launches
- Select your preferred language
- Enter your account credentials to log in
- Complete two-factor verification
3. Apple Silicon Performance Benchmarks
I ran detailed performance tests on an M3 MacBook Pro:
| Test Item | Result |
|---|---|
| Cold start time | ~2.5 seconds |
| Candlestick chart load | Under 1 second |
| Switching trading pairs | Instant response |
| Memory usage | ~250–350 MB |
| CPU usage (idle) | < 1% |
| CPU usage (active operations) | 2–5% |
Apple Silicon handles the Binance client exceptionally well. Overall smoothness is impressive, and even with multiple trading pair tabs open simultaneously there is no stuttering.
Intel Mac Comparison
Test results on an Intel i7 MacBook Pro (2019 model):
| Test Item | Result |
|---|---|
| Cold start time | ~4 seconds |
| Candlestick chart load | ~1.5 seconds |
| Memory usage | ~300–450 MB |
| CPU usage (idle) | 1–2% |
The Intel version performs well too, though there is slight lag in multi-tab scenarios. Day-to-day use is completely fine.
4. Mac-Exclusive Advantages
4.1 Trackpad Gestures
The MacBook trackpad is a genuine asset:
- Two-finger pinch: Zoom in and out on the candlestick chart timeline
- Two-finger swipe: Scroll left and right to browse historical candlestick data
- Tap to click: Quickly select functions with a light tap
4.2 Spotlight Search
Once you add Binance to Spotlight, you can use Command + Space to search for and launch the app instantly — a very efficient workflow.
4.3 Multiple Desktops / Spaces
Use macOS multiple desktops to your advantage:
- Create a dedicated "Trading" desktop space
- Place the Binance client on that space
- Swipe three fingers left or right to switch quickly between work and trading
4.4 Dark Mode Sync
The Binance client follows the macOS dark mode setting. When the system switches to dark mode, the client switches automatically, giving you a visually consistent experience.
5. Common Mac Issues
Q: The .dmg file will not open — what should I do?
A: The download may be incomplete. Check whether the file size matches what the official website shows, then re-download while ensuring a stable network connection.
Q: The system shows "App is damaged and cannot be opened" — how do I fix it?
A: Open Terminal and run the following command to remove the quarantine attribute:
xattr -cr /Applications/Binance.app
Then try opening the app again.
Q: Does the client need to be reinstalled after an update?
A: No. The client has a built-in automatic update function. When an update is available, simply restart the app.
Q: Does the MacBook get noticeably hot while running Binance?
A: In testing, M-series MacBooks generate almost no noticeable heat when running the Binance client. Intel MacBooks may warm up slightly during prolonged high-frequency market data refreshing, which is within normal range.
Q: Can I use Time Machine to back up Binance data?
A: Time Machine does back up application data, but Binance's core data is stored in the cloud. Even if you switch computers, simply reinstalling and logging in will restore all your settings.
6. Building a Mac Trading Environment
Best Setup Recommendations
- External monitor: Connect a 27-inch 4K display to your MacBook — use one screen for market data and the laptop screen for news and social media
- Use Stage Manager: The Stage Manager feature introduced in macOS Ventura works great for managing multiple windows
- Shortcuts integration: Create a Shortcut that opens the Binance client, a market data site, and a news feed all at once
Useful Built-in Tools
- Use the built-in "Notes" app to record your trading strategy
- Use "Reminders" to set scheduled market-check alerts
- Use Split View to compare data side by side
7. Uninstalling
If you need to uninstall:
- Quit the Binance client
- Open Finder → "Applications" folder
- Drag Binance to the Trash
- Empty the Trash
- (Optional) Remove residual files:
~/Library/Application Support/Binance
Summary
Installing the Binance Mac desktop client is straightforward — the drag-and-drop installation method feels natural to Mac users. Performance on Apple Silicon is outstanding, with cold starts under 3 seconds and near-instant chart loading. If you are a Mac user, the desktop client is highly recommended. Combine it with trackpad gestures and multiple desktops to build an efficient and enjoyable trading setup.
